Duluth was just one of the stops for Cruise For Cancer’s journey. The assortment of cars will be stopping 90 more times around the Northland to raise more money. Relatives and community members gathered Saturday for Cruise For Cancer, a fundraising organization for local families dealing with cancer.

In the evenings, catch “Movies Under the Stars,” the “Voice of the Ocean” (a live show), or head over to the Club Fusion dance club. The private, 40-acre resort in the Bahamas has white-sand beaches, a craft market, volleyball and water sports, and a beach party complete with a barbecue lunch. Four of the cruise visits from Viking vessels will be turnaround cruises. That means people will either start or end their voyage here. After nearly a decade, cruise ships returned to Duluth on May 30, 2022. Ships from multiple lines will bring people from all over the world to North America’s furthest inland seaport.

The Cruise Against Cancer is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, with all the funds raised staying right here locally! This event is held each year in loving memory of every cancer patient, family and friends who have lost the battle with cancer, and for the ones who continue to conquer it. “It’s exciting to have the cruise ships back on the Great Lakes. As these people came to shore they were very excited to be here. Friendly faces, excited to get out and see what Duluth has to offer,” said Shawn O’Dougherty with Great Lake Shore Excursions.

The BackstoryThe Cruise Against Cancer started in New York nearly a decade ago. Our Brother, Steve Russell decided to find a way to help fight Cancer. Our Mother was taken from us by Cancer in 2001 and he wanted to raise funds in her honor. Steve’s Son Colin worked on the Lauren Kristy, a 65 foot turn-of-the-century style riverboat. So, during a family get together in 2017, we were reminiscing and decided that they may have the Ocean, But we have a river! Later that evening the Minnesota Cruise Against Cancer 2018 had begun.
First Cruise Ship of 2023 Arrives in Duluth Harbor
In 2025, we will be sailing on the Silver Moon with Silversea! There are need for more workers to help, especially with the added turnaround visits. The other vessels will be docking at the Clure Public Marine terminal. (Northern News Now) - From hot rods to muscle cars, an organization is hoping to make a difference for cancer patients. There is no programming for children or care services on this ship.

We’ll get close to all the action of our hardworking harbor, while telling you all there is to know about its workings, science and ecology — then & now. Enjoy the panoramic views of the North Shore and the largest freshwater lake in North America. For families who hope to have enough to keep everyone entertained, while also staying on a budget, the Carnival Cruises are great options. There are a variety of shows, access to parks for kids, and adults-only retreats for parents to wind down. Royal Caribbean Cruises are great options if you're looking for both short and long trips, while Princess provides a great all-around cruise experience. A majority of the passengers for the turnaround cruise voyages will be flying in and out of the Duluth International Airport, according to Hobbs.

They’ve been meeting with the excursion tour coordinators who help get folks to Duluth and on the ship. While you’re here with us, enjoy everything Duluth has to offer. Some of our favorite attractions offer organized tours, activities and classes. It’s a great way to learn something new and love Duluth like we do. Tentatively, cruise ships will dock at the DECC in the downtown area. Combine the pink-sand beaches of Bermuda with a trip to the Bahamas onboard Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas for a longer, sun-soaked getaway. The cruise sails from Baltimore and overnights in Port Canaveral, for even more time exploring.
Then, it continues to Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas for private cabanas, gigantic water slides, and swim-up bars. Onboard Grandeur, passengers can watch movies under the stars, watch a tango show, take culinary or sushi classes, and learn some new dance moves. Sample excellent cuisine at one of Royal Caribbean’s signature restaurants, like Chops Grille steakhouse or Giovanni’s Table. Duluth is flat near the lake shore, but just beyond the downtown areas, the terrain slopes up.
The cruise calls on the private island Princess Cays and includes kayaking, eco tours, and more. This is the first of seven Viking cruises that will be stopping in Duluth through September. Four of these stops will be part of a new option for passengers that can either start or end their cruise here in Duluth. American Queen Voyages will also be making two stops in Duluth this summer.
Duluth consists of several compact districts including Bayfront, Canal Park, the Historic Arts and Theater (HART) District, Lincoln Park Craft District and downtown. The areas are easily walkable, and just beyond these commercial districts, Park Point boasts one of the world's longest freshwater sand spits, spanning 6 miles. This popular destination includes a local beach with a seasonal lifeguard and a recreation area. Duluth's 130 city parks provide ample opportunity for enjoyment of the outdoors.

Cruise Against Cancer is a non-profit dedicated to raising funds for the Relay for Life of the American Cancer Society, with all the funds staying right here locally. Many of our friends and family members, all too often, learn about yet another loved one being diagnosed with some form of cancer. Therefore, it is imperative that we continue doing our part to raise funds for research and to assist with the expenses related to those affected during their treatments. BUT…we couldn’t always make it to NY for the cruise and we knew many people here in MN who had lost loved ones, were current caregivers or in their own battle against cancer, or were cancer survivors.
